Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 7, 2026
Your privacy is important to us. At Unbrella ("we", "us", or "our"), we try to keep the product simple, the business model straightforward, and our data practices easy to understand.
- We do not sell personal data or location data.
- We do not store your location history.
- We do not require an account to use the app.
- We make money from subscriptions, not ads.
1. Information We Collect
We aim to collect as little information as possible while keeping the app and website working reliably.
Location Data
Unbrella uses your device's location services to provide hyper-local weather forecasts. This location data is processed locally on your device and sent directly to Apple's WeatherKit service to retrieve forecast data. We do not store your location history, and we do not sell location data.
App Diagnostics and Telemetry
The app currently includes telemetry and diagnostics to help us understand crashes, reliability issues, and overall product usage. This telemetry is enabled by default today, but you can turn it off in the app's settings. We do not use this telemetry to build advertising profiles, and we do not store location history as part of this data.
Website Analytics and Cookies
The Unbrella website currently uses Umami Analytics and Google Analytics to understand site traffic and improve the marketing site. These services may receive information such as page views, browser details, approximate region, and IP address as part of normal web requests.
The website also stores a cookie-consent preference in your browser so the banner does not reappear after you dismiss it.
2. Third-Party Services
To provide forecasts, diagnostics, and website analytics, Unbrella interacts with the following third-party services:
- Apple WeatherKit: Used for primary weather data (forecasts, conditions). Apple's Weather Privacy Policy applies.
- RainViewer: Used for radar map tiles. Your IP address may be visible to RainViewer when fetching map tiles, consistent with standard internet protocols.
- National Weather Service (NWS): Used for government-issued severe weather alerts in the US.
- Umami Analytics: Used on the website to understand traffic and marketing site performance.
- Google Analytics: Used on the website for traffic analytics and reporting.
3. Data Storage
All user settings, saved locations, and search history are stored locally on your device using
UserDefaults. If you delete the app, this data is deleted.
We do not maintain user accounts for the app. Website analytics providers may retain analytics data under their own policies, and Apple manages subscription billing data through the App Store.
4. Advertising
Unbrella does not show ads in the app, and we do not sell your data to advertisers.
5. Subscriptions
Paid subscriptions are processed by Apple. We do not receive your full payment-card information.
6. Children's Privacy
Our Service does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
